24 Cats and Kittens Rescued in Pennsylvania

24 cats and kittens were rescued from a McKees Rocks home. A litter of the kittens were just a few days old. They were evacuated after officers found them living in unhygienic conditions. The cats and kittens were moved to an Ohio-based animal rescue called Animal Friends. A thorough examination was carried out by the medical staff for each and every animal admitted. Out of which, seven cats tested positive for Feline Leukemia. It is a contagious and potentially fatal virus.  

The kittens were also exposed to this virus. But due to their age, they cannot be tested. They have been moved to foster homes and will be closely monitored. They will be eligible to undergo tests once they turn 6-8 weeks of age. An online fundraiser is being held on Animal Friend’s Facebook page to help rehabilitate the kittens and cats.

While speaking to the Tribune, Cody Hoellerman, director of Animal Friends said, “Some cats were hiding inside furniture. Although their condition is still very uncertain, we know that many of the tiny kittens likely wouldn’t have survived if they had remained in the house.”
