In order to get the participation of the citizens in wildlife conservation, the Ahmedabad State Government has launched a state-wide helpline number to report crimes against wildlife.
Get in Touch:
People can get in touch to report an animal in distress or that needs to be rescued by either sending SMS or a Whatsapp message. They can also give a missed call on this number +918320002000. From this number, the citizens will receive links through which they can apply for cattle-death compensation.
While speaking to the Times of India, a senior forest department official said that this number will be a computerized auto-reply number. The helpline will then provide the caller with links that can help him or her get in touch with various forest officials like the RFO (Range Forest Officer) or DCF (Deputy Conservator of Forests), that are present in all the 33 districts of the state, respectively.
He also clearly mentioned that this helpline number is strictly for wildlife animals in distress and not for strays or domesticated pets. The official stated that the department already has the Karuna helpline number 1962 for birds and strays animals, therefore this number is specifically dedicated to wild animals.
Recently, the services offered by the Karuna Helpline number have been improved in preparation for the Uttarayan festival. There are thousands of birds, who are at risk of getting injured or killed by the sharp kite strings. The Karuna helpline number has a GIS-enabled service where an individual can get access to all the phone numbers of forest departments, rescue centers, NGOs, veterinary physicians, and volunteers in nearby locations.
Citizens can learn more about this wildlife helpline number by going onto the Gujarat Forest Department's official website.
