Is Puppy Socialization Important?

If your furry one is hyper active at all times and you want to manage their behaviour, puppy socialization is an ideal option to consider. It helps to manage their first encounters with adults, kids, dogs, and any other situation that they come across.

When you bring home a new puppy, it is necessary to give them some time to fit into our lives. Initially, the pup might be overwhelmed with the new environment. But, with time they settle down and get familiar with the surroundings.

What is Puppy Socialization?

Puppy Socialization is a training process that helps them to learn and behave when they interact with humans and other dogs. It also helps them develop a better relationship with their owners and become used to different environments. It prevents behavioural problems too.

Why is it Important?

At a very young age, puppies learn, understand and intercept things and objects. This process helps them be at ease with everybody and everything around them.

Puppy Socialization includes training your pup to:

  • Get used to different people
  • People and dogs outside the house
  • Get used to different sounds
  • Sniff different surfaces
  • Familiarise them with different objects

The pups that do not practice puppy socialization generally tend to:

  • Back away from unknown people
  • Bark
  • Be still
  • Turn away from people and situations
  • Become fixated

It is important for all puppies to go through these steps as it is natural for these tiny ones to be scared of new people and new environments. Puppy socialization is always followed by puppy habituation, and both these processes are fun and easy. They help your puppy grow into a good and friendly adult dog who will have less behavioural issues.
