Cats and Dogs are typically held responsible for pet allergies. However, they are not the only pets that can cause you to sneeze and cough. An allergic reaction might be brought on by any animal. A reaction to certain proteins, which are predominantly present in oil discharges from a pet's skin, saliva or urine, results in allergies. Allergies are not caused by hair itself. Proteins are released into the environment when your pet sheds hair or skin flakes, where they may trigger an allergic reaction.
If you have an allergy to your pet, you can experience symptoms straight away or they might take a few days to manifest. They may consist of:
- 1. Sneezing
- 2.Runny or congested nose
3.A facial ache (from nasal congestion) - 4.Wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing
- 5.Red, itchy, or watery eyes
- 6.Itching or hives etc.
Some claim that they become immune to their pets. Some people get over their allergies. But if you're getting a new pet, don't completely rely on it. With more exposure, an allergic reaction could get worse. Hence, if you have allergies, it may be better for your health to stay away from any fuzzy or hairy animals. However, if you don't want your love for your animal pals to suffer because of your allergies, here are some suggestions to help:
- Prevent pets from entering the bedroom.
- Regularly bathe and groom your pet.
- Regularly wipe down smooth surfaces in the house and vacuum frequently.
- Any bedding that your dog uses should be washed often.
- Upholstered furniture will retain a lot of allergens. You may choose to keep pets off this furniture or not allow access to those rooms.
- Consult an allergist. You can be tested to determine the type of allergies you have. Antihistamines and over-the-counter allergy medications may offer you temporary relief. Long-term, allergy vaccinations can be beneficial.
- Always keep your medications close at hand.
Use an air purifier. It can assist in clearing the air of allergies if you leave it on continuously.
Pets are family. Doctors understand that and are often ready to help you manage your symptoms so that you can continue to have a loving relationship with your beloved pets
