The word “treats” might be just any other word in the English language for us. But it is sure does ring all sorts of bells for our furry ones. Many parents think of feeding treats to their furry ones either when they feel like showering them with extra love or when they want to reward them for being a good kid!
I'm sure some of you would prefer to make these treats at home as opposed to opting for any local treats available in the market. Well, if you are in search of a foolproof recipe to create a treat from scratch for your furry one, well then don’t look far - this DIY is the perfect one for you!
This DIY is about preparing peanut butter bone treats for your adorable pooch. Here are all the ingredients that you’ll need to get started with this DIY treat.
- Organic and unsweetened peanut butter – 1 cup (either creamy or crunch will do)
- Whole wheat flour – 1 cup
- All-purpose flour – 1 cup
- Multigrain crushed cereal or bran – 1 cup (Ensure it doesn’t include raisins)
- Shredded carrot – ½ cup
- Blackstrap molasses – 1 tablespoon
- Olive oil – 2 tablespoon
- Baking powder – 1 teaspoon
- Water – ½ cup
Here’s the Prawcess:
-
You may start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees F ( 180 degrees C ). Take a mixing bowl and measure and mix all the dry ingredients first. Then go on to add the wet ingredients step by step. Start dousing this mixture with a little water at each interval. As you do, keep whisking all the ingredients properly. The amount of water required in the mixture will vary depending on the oil present in the peanut butter.
-
Sprinkle flour on a flat and clean surface and knead the dough well. Once the dough is set, it’s time to get in a quick cardio session by rolling out the dough. Roll it to around ¼ inch thick. With the help of a bone-shaped cookie cutter, ( which is easily found on the Internet or at any baking store ) place it on the dough to form the bones. ( You are free to choose any shaped cookie cutter for your furry baby. )
- After you’re done cutting out all the bones, bring the remaining scrapped dough together and knead it again. Repeat the same process as earlier and you’d be surprised that you can squeeze out a whole bag of homemade treats with so much dough.
-
Take a baking tray, you can either place a baking sheet or a parchment-lined sheet on it. Place all the bones on the tray and leave sufficient space between the two cookies. Bake the cookies in preheated oven.
Ensure you bake the cookies until they turn brown on both sides. Once the aroma fills your kitchen and your slobber king/queen’s nose, take them out of the oven and let it cool. Don’t toss it into their bowl or mouths immediately. The cookies become crispier after they cool down completely. The pooches enjoy them when they’re a whole lot crunchier!
You can store them in an air-tight container and let your pooch enjoy them on a timely basis. Do keep in mind that as much as you’d want to feed and pamper your pet with these homemade goodies, treats are to be fed to your pet in moderation. Happy Baking!
