Furry ones play an essential role in every pet parent’s life. Canines can be your best buddy, stress buster and a lot more. Every pet parent needs to thank their furry ones for their unconditional love and support. There is no other way to thank your furry one than to prepare something for them yourself. Pet parents love and enjoy doing something for their furry ones, from preparing a special dog dish to creating something unique for them to use.

Here’s a special DIY idea that you can try to thank your furry baby. Making a dog Bandana is a simple DIY project that you can take up. Sewing a dog bandana is ideal and is a simple sewing project for beginners. You can make this bandana using any leftover fabric or an old t-shirt.

Materials required:

  • Fabric
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Sewing pins and clips
  • Safety pins
  • Rotary cutter
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Sewing machine

Follow the given steps to create a cute dog bandana for your furry one-

First, you need to wash, dry and iron the fabric that you will be using. Ironing/pressing the fabric before you start sewing it, will help you get a proper precision of the fabric and you will have lesser flaws in the end result.

Before you cut the fabric, you need to take proper measurements of your canine. The length of the fabric you have to use will depend on the size of the canine. Taking help of the size chart mentioned below, you need to measure your canine’s collar area/neck and cut the fabric according to the measurements mentioned.

  • X-Small: 17” wide x 7” long
  • Small: 23” wide x 9.5” long
  • Medium: 28” wide x 12.5” long
  • Large: 34” wide x 14” long
  • X-Large: 40” wide x 17.5” long

Measure the fabric according to the width required for your canine. Once you’ve measured the width, from the centre of the width, you need to measure the length in the downward direction creating a triangular fabric.

For example, if your canine is small-sized then you need to measure 23” width and measure 9.5” from the bottom point of the triangle. You will then have to measure and cut two straight lines towards the end of 23” width creating a triangular shape.

Now that you have the triangular material ready, fold ¼” of the fabric twice on one of the edges onto the backside of the fabric and pin it. Repeat this same process on the other two edges of the fabric. Sew all three sides and ensure to cut any remaining loose threads.

Your dog bandana is now ready to be used. You can call your pooch and put it onto him or her. It is always advisable to supervise your canine while he or she is wearing a bandana.
