Did someone just say treats! Even this word can grab your furry baby's attention quickly. Treats is a great way to have all of their undivided attention. Treats in a cat's life hold more value than just being a delicious snack. They are a great way to train your furry baby, bond with them, and reinforce good behavioural habits.
Every feline needs a chewy treat or a chewy toy to improve the health of its teeth. When a kitten is 4 to 7 months old, they are in their teething phase and will chew on anything easily available to them. But, this phase is temporary. But, some even adult felines love to chew. If your furry one is one of them, you might want to give him or her the best chewy toy or treat.
Remember, if your feline is constantly chewing on a non-edible food item, there are chances your furry one might be suffering from a condition called the “Pica Syndrome”. Do not mistake this condition for any other behavioural issue. Reach out to your vet at the earliest.
But, if your furry one is just a fan of chewing food items or chewy treats, then this DIY tuna chewy treat recipe can be the perfect treat for them. This treat can be their long-lost love that is found again.
Here’s all you need to prepare this treat:
- 1 egg
- 1 cup of tuna
- ½ cup of chopped parsley
- 2 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoon water
- 1 cup of rice flour
- ½ cup of cooked rice (You can use white or brown rice – based on your feline’s dietary needs)
- 1 tablespoon of catnip
- 1 cup of wet cat food
Take a medium-sized mixing bowl, add an egg, chopped parsley, wet cat food, olive oil, and water. Mix these ingredients properly together. Ensure that all the ingredients are blended well. If you have an electric blender at home, you can use that to mix the ingredients.
Later, add rice flour and cooked rice to the mixture. Stir it well again. Ensure that the mixture is thick but separable. We do not need its consistency to like dough. The mixture’s consistency must be similar to a cake batter. If the mixture is too thick pour in some water. But, if the mixture is too flowy add some rice flour.
Take a baking sheet and line it with parchment paper. Preheat the oven for 15 minutes at 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
Pour the mixture on the baking sheet and spread it evenly. Ensure that the mixture is about 1/3 inch thick. Put the tray into the oven and bake it for 12 to 15 minutes. Remove the tray from the oven and keep it aside to cool.
Once it’s slightly cooled down, cut rectangular bite-sized pieces and put the tray back into the oven. Bake it again for 8 minutes. Remove the tray, allow the treats to completely cool down, and store it in an air-tight container. You can prepare around 50 treat pieces at one time.
Chewy tuna treats are ready for your furry one's consumption. Ensure to not feed your furry one too many treats in one day, it might cause weight gain and other severe health issues. Remember moderation is the key!
